As a local business owner, your website is one of the most important tools for attracting new customers and building trust. Yet, many businesses overlook a simple but crucial element: listing their local address.

Including your physical address on your website – particularly in the footer and on the contact page – can make a significant difference in your online presence and customer experience. This is true even if you don’t have an open storefront. Here’s why it matters.

1. Boosts local SEO

When potential customers in your area search for services or products you offer, search engines like Google take location into account. Having your business address clearly listed on your site helps search engines understand where you operate. This improves your chances of showing up in local search results, making it easier for customers in your area to find you.

Here’s an example:

Kelowna Bookkeeper, 123 Any Street, Kelowna BC, V1Y 0C2, Canada

Including your address in key areas like the footer and contact page reinforces your local presence to search engines and can boost your rankings on platforms like Google Maps. It’s one of the easiest ways to improve your local SEO without extra effort.

2. Builds trust and credibility

Displaying your business address helps build trust and credibility with potential customers. People are more likely to trust a business that openly shares its physical location because it shows you’re real and established in the community. An address signals stability and legitimacy, which can make visitors feel more comfortable doing business with you.

Even if your business is home-based or you operate online, listing your city or town adds a layer of authenticity.

3. Makes it easier for customers to contact you

Customers often visit your website looking for ways to reach you. Having your address easily accessible on your contact page and in the footer ensures they won’t have to dig around for your details. If they’re planning to visit your physical location or send something by mail, your address should be readily available without extra clicks.

Including your address in the footer ensures it’s visible on every page, making it easy for people to find your location no matter where they are on your site.

4. Helps you appear in Google My Business listings

Having your address on your website is an important step in connecting your website to your Google My Business (GMB) listing. When your website and GMB listing both feature the same address, it verifies your business’s legitimacy in Google’s eyes. This helps your business rank higher in local listings, making you more visible to potential customers searching for businesses nearby.

5. Encourages foot traffic

If you have a storefront or physical location where customers can visit, putting your address on your site can drive foot traffic. People who are local and looking for a product or service like yours are more likely to stop by if they can easily find where you are.

Including a clickable Google Maps link next to your address on the contact page can make it even easier for customers to get directions and visit you in person.

6. Improves user experience

A seamless user experience is key to keeping people on your site and encouraging them to take action. When customers can quickly find your business address in both the footer and contact page, it reduces frustration and enhances their overall experience.

In a world where convenience is everything, the easier you make it for people to find and contact you, the better.

so after reading this, totally see the value in posting our address more visibly on our site. we’ve been underrated for too long in local searches and maybe this is the missing link. anyone else seen solid results after doing the same?

Love when shops list their address clearly, saves so much time instead of having to google it separately.

Interesting points, but isn’t there a risk of privacy for smaller home-based businesses? How do we balance the need for local SEO and privacy concerns? I think there’s more to consider than just visibility. Maybe a P.O. Box or virtual office could be a compromise?

Totally agree – yes and yes. Even a co-working space or small rental office.
